A jury in the US recently ruled that Johnson and Johnson’s had to pay a woman USD 70 million because their baby powder caused her ovarian cancer.  This is the third court case where a jury has determined that use of Johnson’s baby powder is linked to ovarian cancer, and several other lawsuits are pending.   (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-baby-powder-cancer-20161028-story.html    http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/beauty-products/news/a41174/woman-cancer-baby-powder-lawsuit)

In addition to the link to cancer, baby powder has been shown to cause breathing problems and lung damage when the particles are breathed in.  If you are shaking powder on your baby, it’s hard to prevent them from inhaling some of the powder.  Babies who were premature or have asthma or frequent respiratory illness are at highest risk.  (http://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-safe-to-use-baby-powder-on-my-baby)

With the link to cancer, respiratory problems, and lung damage, there is no good reason to use baby powder at all.  If your child is prone to diaper rash, change their diapers more frequently or apply an all natural cream like Kijani’s diaper rash cream.  Our diaper rash cream is completely safe and nontoxic and does not carry any of the health risks that baby powder does.  If your baby is not prone to diaper rash, there is no need to use anything at all.  Simply change their diapers ever few hours, do not leave them in a dirty or wet diaper too long, and give them a few hours each day of “free time” where they are left without a diaper on.
